There are two basic types of rebates. One that is Manufacturer to dealer incentive, this one is the dealers option to tell you about and to give you. The other is dealer to consumer, this you are entitled to and will be told about. The 4,500 rebate you refer to happens to be a dealer incentive. If you buy the car without the dealer telling you about this incentive they have put the screws to you. even at invoice they just made 4,500 dollars. Think about this way, you still got a good deal, you got what you initially wanted. I know it sucks, but they were able to sell you the car at invoice for a reason. Anyway, make as much noise as possible. I wish you the best of luck. Maybe the dealership will honor it and give you half, to me that would be fair. Your mistake and theirs, you guys should meet in the middle. I would not start there. And don't talk to your sales person, speak with the sales manager. You like Saab and plan on buying a new often, if they want to keep your business they will make this right. (That's your story, stick to it!) In the worst case you have learned a valuable lesson. One other thing, even if you knew about the dealer incentive, they don't have to give it to you, they may mark the car down 2K and keep 2.5K. It is an incentive for the dealer to do with what they please. So if it is any concelation, you may not have gotten the rebate anyway. Another way to think about it, if there were no rebate at all, do you think you would have been able to buy the car at invoice? Maybe, Maybe not. Good luck.
