Hatch is THE reason I bought 9-3

Things that easily fit inside the hatch of my 2000 9-3:
Two bicycles
Six pairs of skis
Every piece of furniture that I currently own (not all at once of course)
When I was considering new cars, I definitely wanted the storage convenience of the HUGE hatchback, and I definitely did not want the looks and dorkish implications of a station wagon. Besides, bicycles are actually much easier to load into a hatchback than a wagon, because of the way the hatch slopes forward, allowing me to lift bikes all the way in.
In the U.S. market, the Saab 9-3 is the only CAR (i.e. not a Stupid Useless Vehicle) now sold with:
front wheel drive
manual transmission
a large hatchback (small hatchbacks like the BMW, Honda Civic, VW Golf etc., just don't cut it for capacity)
End of buying decision for me. Now that I am a confirmed Saab owner, I will probably continue buying Saabs as long as they continue to offer the large hatch. If the U.S. market "experts" at GM ever decide to do away with the hatchback design, I will have purchased my last Saab.
