In just the last couple of weeks, Saab has begun listing a new accessory armrest in the catalog. (See picture and link below.)
The new armrest is different from and in addition to the previous accessory armrest (still being sold) for base 9-3 that goes on the center console lid and the 2000 9-3SE standard armrest that is attached to the driver's seat and can fold upward.
I believe this new armrest is adding to all the confusion. The new armrest, by the way, is real leather, instead of the vinyl of the old accessory one. It also attaches to the center console lid.
While this one is sleeker than the old one, I agree with the opinion that these armrests all interfere with shifting a manual tranny. Hence, I don't have any of them in my car. But, if you've got an automatic, by all means, put your arm up and relax. Don't forget the cruise control...
