Firstly, thanks to all of you for participating in this forum...its contents allowed us to make the decision to purchase a 9-3 base (2001 - Midnight/Beige - took quite a bit of research. Salesman didn't seem to "know" about the $4000 dealer incentive...at first :-) ).
1) The base model has plenty of power for my wife (yeah yeah, HER car). Do the SE's go through a lot of tires? I found it *very* easy to spin tires on dry pavement in a 99' base (test drive). Our car is fresh off of the boat and will be arriving here (Wisconsin) early next week, tires may have to be upgraded?
2) Once we get used to the power (upgraded from a 90' Civic), can we convert the puppy into an SE version? It seems that a turbo replacement is the only real difference. Then again, I could have my head up my a$$ too. :-)
3) Anyone know what the base tires will be? I'd prefer a good all season tire...better than average snow/ice performance as well as little road noise, longevity, etc...Suggestions encouraged! Yeah yeah, I know...have my cake and eat it too with a single set of "nearly perfect" tires.
4) An observation: I've read a lot of owners speak proudly of going 5, 10, even 17 or 20K miles trouble free...uh...not used to vehicles where this is a big deal. 4Runner (yes, I off road, stop laughing) went 85K until I touched it (brake pads). Just strikes me as odd. I have to admit, the Saab is a helluva lot more fun to drive.
5) Lastly, but probably most importantly...suggestions on breaking in the engine for longevity/high power/low fuel consumption? It's been ages since I've purchased a new car. Dunno if it matters but it's a five speed.
Thanks folks, looking forward to reading/learning more. I already have my eye on the Crutchfield catalog for sound upgrades.
