Edmunds pans the new supercharged C class Coupe a "chick car" but if priced in the high $20Ks, this care could very well be an attractice alternative to a base 9-3 coupe. For first time buyers in the entry level luxury market, the appeal of grasping the brass ring (mercedes tri-star) vs buying a lesser brand such an Audi A4 1.8 Turbo, a Volvo S40 or a SAAB 9-3 for similiar money is appealing. Think about it, a Mercedes for the price of a SAAB!! How many of us bought our SAABs because we are frugal consumers seeking rational value in an emotion laden world of car sales?

Resale value for a MB has got to make the value of the C Class Coupe a serious threat to the 9-3. In the end, the steep depreciation on SAABs is a major drawback, countered only by the value the SAAB represents vis a vis other marqee European brands. Without such a glaring gap in value, SAAB may be in trouble. Looks like (Daimler) Mercedes Benz has painted a bullseye on SAAB?? Note also that MB just like the pukes at BMW lightened their steering to appeal to the fairer sex??? Whats up with this pandering to sterotypes about women being unable to handle heavily weighted steering??? Are BMW and MB in a race to see who can ruin their brand loyalty fastest among the purist crowd???

By not offering the SE as a coupe, SAAB, is directing more upscale customers to the new C-Class coupe which while it has far less utility than the SAAB due a smaller hatch and rear wheel drive, is still an attractive utilitarian vehicle with considerable brand catchet.
