Yes, there are reasons for thinking of an SE instead of the base. Except, I don't know if SAAB makes a 3door SE here in the states. It doesn't make sense to me to buy a base and then spend money on aftermarket parts to make it an SE. Why not get a good deal on an SE and all of the good stuff is covered under warranty. Plus you get the bonus of power seats and climate control (which is really neat and works well in the SAAB). If you do decide to go with a 3door base, you can increase the hp by 35hp with an aftermarket chip (~$1000) (The jury is still out on whether external boost controllers work on the T7 engine management MY 2000 and above). You'll also probably want to get the sports exhuast (~$300) and a K&N filter (~$40). If you decide on leather you may want to get factory leather. I've never seen factory leather that looks bad, but I have seen aftermarket leather that looks like crap.
