very true, but I think you misunderstood me Posted by MJM [Email] (#872) [Profile/Gallery] (more from MJM) on Wed, 11 Apr 2001 10:45:48 In Reply to: Don't judge your car by what an Accord owner says, jd, Wed, 11 Apr 2001 10:10:51 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
The conversation with my friend was about ride harshness, not handling. I agree, his Accord doesn't come anywhere near the level of handling that my Saab does, it's not even close.
Perhaps I didn't state it well, the Konis are only ~1/2 turn up from full soft, not 1/2 turn down from full firm. They won't go much softer. I'd like more road control as the car really bounces around over what I would call minor bumps at speed; it settles heavily into the depression, then bounces up over the crest, or depending on the bump, vice-versa. The stock shocks/struts were very floaty, the car would hobby-horse, etc. I recently had it aligned and the suspension thoroughly ($180!!!) inspected, everything checked out ok.
Summary - the shocks are ~1/2 turn from full soft - the car has lots of jitter and headtoss, settles heavily into bumps, yet is floaty/bouncy at freeway speeds.
I would think the jitter and headtoss is from too much stiffness in the suspension, yet the behavior over bumps makes me think that it's not damped enough.
Perhaps I need to drive a newer one to recalibrate my expectations. On the other hand, I'm starting to get an itch for a Viggen or an E36 M3. :)
Suspension thoughts?
thanks, Mike
