I did not acknowledge the actual mileage, Again if you are intending of buying the car why should milage be of any business of theirs. When negociating the lease buyout with extreme high milage do not under any circumstances give the actual milage. Since you are not selling the car, I don't believe this is illegal- ethical, well maybe.
The reality of it all, is the mileage is of interest if THEY know they can get more money out of you. I told them 40K miles, If I told them 70K do you think the buy out would have been less?, think about that for a moment...would it have been less? the answer probably not. No way they would have charged me $16000 plus the penalty. Me, being less than forth coming of information is nothing less than what a car dealer does on a daily basis when selling used cars, they don't tell you what repairs or what condition the car was in when they received it, only of the condition that it is today.
