European laws (not UK)require that a rear fog light (one) be within 100cm of the left profile of the automobile and no more and no less than a specified distance from the ground below the vehicle. I installed a fog light on my SAAB 99 in Germany and the law is very explicit regarding the placement and the use of only one light. SAAB light assemblies are such that right hand car drive cars can have a fog light on the right rear. Since there are no laws in the US on rear fog lights that I know of you probably can use both. Most people don't even know what they are as I am often told that I have a brake light out when I use it.
