I have an '01 Viggen but only at 7.8K miles. Issues that I'll get looked at during my 10K free maintenance:
- loose rear piece of trim on back of center console (anyone know how to reattach this - duh?)
- poor operation of left rear outer door handle - common 9-3 problem with a service bulletin
- squeaky front suspension when going slowly over speed bumps
- sometimes "sticky" manual shifter where certain gears are hard to shift into for a split second - almost so infrequent as to forget about
I bought my car 12/1/01 new so it had been at the dealer for quite a long time with only a few test-driver miles on it - had to replace the wiper blades immediately, and probably accounts for dry or squeaky suspension parts. None of the above is very annoying or infuriating other than the loose trim that I can't figure out how to reattach myself.
Going from the non-turbo "S" to the extra-HOT Viggen will be an eye-opening experience! The torque steer when punching it or going through slow curves can be unnerving until you get used to it, but 3rd gear at wide-open throttle is jaw-dropping, but usually only safe on a relatively clear interstate as you'll go from 40-80 in no time.
As far as reliability, non of the Viggen years has aged enough for real reliability statistics. I think that further down the road some of the repairs could get expensive out of warranty but you have to decide when the warranty runs out whether or not you love the car enough to take care of it when it needs it. I, like you, am addicted to turbo Saabs - nothing like it I've ever driven.
