My wife took our Viggen in this morning to get new front brake pads along with a few other things. 25,000 miles, so I figure that's normal for soft pads. Well, the new service manager tells her thanks, that'll be 650 bucks. I call back to ask what's up, and she tells me that the rotors have to be replaced, it'll be more than $650, and then gives me the whole wear item routine. She says it's Saab's policy. I'm pissed. I mean, the idea that the rotors have to be replaced every time you replace the pads is absurd (yes, these are the original pads). If they were warped and vibrating, then sure, but these work perfectly fine and only show a slight lip at the edge. Has anyone else run into this?

To make things worse, this is supposed to be an up and coming dealership. They're getting the very first new Saab showroom, they've hired a new service manager, and they just hired away Brian from Saabcenter, who we all know, as the new sales manager. So they're supposed to be working to improve their image and to expand the market here. I even took my wife in this weekend to drive the new 9-3, hoping she'd like it. Needless to say, that isn't going to happen if they pull stunts like this. It's like they have no clue that a customer could have even the slightest bit of knowlege about cars.

I spoke to Brian, and I spoke with Saab, so hopefully this will turn out o.k., but it's rediculous that I should even have to deal with it. I guess that's what I get for asking the dealership to do a simple task that I should do myself.

Oh well, sorry for the rant. You just have to vent sometimes.
