I am having the same debate with myself. The nearest saab dealer is an hour and a half away, and the nearest audi dealer is a half hour from me. I really liked both the a4 and the 9-3. The saab seemed a bit more spacious inside, but the audi's interior was imho a more cohesive design, and again imo more attractive. I also personally give the audi a slight edge in exterior styling. I need to go back and take another a4 out because people in reviews have complained that the footwell in the a4 is very narrow and becomes uncomfy on long drives, and my short intro test drives did not make this apparent. being 6'2" makes legroom an important factor. If i find that the legroom is comparable, i have no idea how i am going to decide, they are both excellent vehicles, it will prolly come down to the $$$.
as an aside, i also have been checking out the honda accord sedan and coupe. and while it is an apples to oranges comparison, these cars have come along way, especially with regard to the interior of the accord, and the ride and NVH. This is a solid, very quiet new accord, that can be optioned out with most of the features of the saab and audi (and can be had with a 240hp v6). Just wanted to share my observations.
GO SAAB!
