I would definitely ask for a new box. The lube fix they used on my car, and I guess the shim was part of it worked pretty good initially. The first time they did it, it was only about 3 months before mine started to bind again. So they did the lube fix again and this time it was only a month before I broke another white plastic thing. So yes, ask for the new box, you may get lucky and the lube will last a while, but obviously, I have my doubts. It looks like Anders provided the info you need for the box so I will not repeat it.
As far as climate affecting it, I don't think so. My first binding problems started in the winter time here in Germany but the second time was in late spring, early summer. So as you can see, the temperatures had nothing to do with it.
The shims they talk about in the fix is probably teflon tape which may help but then it will be reducing the clearance in the already to tight of tolerance box, so I don't see it of being that great of help. The new box has a much lower resistance to adjusting than the old design did after the lube and shim job. They did get the design right the second time.
Good luck!
