So I woke up this morning very excited to install my Viggen IC. The install was actually very straight forward. The only hang up I had was getting the passenger side head light fixture out. Not sure why it was so hard. I kept kind of tinkering with it then, in a fit of desperation, I gave a good yank and it came right out. So continuing on with the bumper removal, IC change out etc was no big deal after that. The whole thing took a good 2.5 or 3 hours. Put it all back together and took it for a spin. Wow. Quite a dramatic increase in performance. Yee Haw!!!
So here's the bad/ugly: Later on today I went out to run some errands. Exiting the highway on a pretty curvey ramp I guess I was not paying attention to the road and I smacked the curb. Hard. I got to the store, checked things out and found the rear passenger side wheel to have some pretty serious curb rash. The front passenger side is flat out ugly. I took a fairly sizeable chunk out of the ridge that runs around the edge of the rim. (These are stock 15" Delta's that came on the '99 9-3.) I just feel sick. This obviously happened due to my lack of attention to driving.
Hopefully there is no serious damage to the car. It still drives straight, no shimmies or wobbles, and no pulsing in the brakes. When I got home I jacked up the front right corner and the wheel seems to spin freely. I'm still going to take it in on Monday to have the front end checked for damage. I just want to puke. This was totally my fault.
It seems there is an upside to all of this: I called my wife and told her about it and her comment was "Didn't you want to get new wheels anyway?" That really surprised me considering I just spend about 700 bones to get the new exhaust and Viggen IC.....
Oh well.
