i have a 99 9-3SE that started acting up about 3 weeks ago. it was doing the number where it has a very rough idle, even stalling out a couple of times. it was most pronounced in cases like coming up to a red light and having to slow down. the RPM's would dip real low and sometimes make it back up, and sometimes the engine would choke out and stall.
My mechanic has been looking at it for about a week now trying different things. checked the IAC, all vac lines look good, MAP sensor, the other thing that's back by the passenger-side wheel-well. he called another shop to ask their help and they thought it might need a new ECU. the new shop said that there's been about 7 updates so mine that haven't been done, and thought a new one would fix the problem. the car's got 142,000 miles on it, so it's getting to the point where things are starting to fail and need replacement (AC compressor & clutch were replaced during that week). i just wasn't sure if the ECU was one of the items that over time, just "wears out."
