That does not sound like a 'bad' ECU, but I suppose anything is possible. They do not wear out, but a component failure is possible in any complex electronic device.
Just to second what Dean said:
- Occasional stalling last summer at stops after engine warmed up, disappeared when mechanic replaced a couple crumbling vac lines and cleaned some connectors.
- Power loss, fixed when holes in cracked IC end tanks repaired with epoxy.
- Mid-boost fuel cuts, fixed when BPC valve cleaned and reinstalled.
- Rough idle, went away with last spark plug change & injector cleaner application.
If you actually have top pay for a new ecu, make sure you keep the old one.
With 150k, if it is ecu related, I would look for crumbling wire insulation before swapping ecu. Most mechanics will change parts, and only look for bad wiring when that does not work, because it is such a pain to look for intermittent electrical problems.
