Comparing the DI issue to a battery is preposterous. Batteries don't die going down the road and risk an accident. Everyone knows their car has a battery and the owner's manual calls it out as a maintenance item. Most Saab owners probably don't even know they have a DI cassette, let alone that it tends to fail. I think the owner's manual says nothing about it. I also am not aware of other cars with such a strange and insidious problem. When I talk to a non-Saab owner about the DI Cassette situation, most people wonder why anyone would buy such a car and can't understand why it isn't recalled and permanently fixed.

The key questions for all of us and for everyone at Saab are:

1. Would you have bought the car if you had know about DI cassettes?
2. In the future, will you buy a Saab and then purchase and store whatever unusual spare parts are necessary (with or without a box) in the trunk? Or, will you buy some other car?
3. If these issues (along with SID, heater knobs, pulleys, oil problems, etc.) render Saab uncompetitive, how long till GM sends it down the path of Oldsmobile, and focuses on Cadillac as its luxury brand for competing with premium Euro and Japanese models?

My answers are: No, No, and about 4 years.

What do all of you think???
