Dean thanks for the info. Coincedentally I changed my oil later the same day,
and eyeballed bushings easy to view, all looked OK by eye.
Note the car wash, I used hi pressure spray (not by choice) and got in behind the wheels etc. This morning / yesterday no noises accompany braking at all, perfectly normal.
Suspect ABS was doing something? Maybe I got something wet that doesn't usually get wet?
