Sponge Left in Patient at SAAB Dealership

Recently had a dealer leave a shop cloth in the engine bay after an oil change. Got off the highway, turned into a supermarket parking lot and started hearing terrible noise from comming the engine bay along with a sudden and drastic loss of power. Started thinking I dropped my transmission or worse (blown engine or busted cylinder). However, there was no smoke or loss of RPMs. Then thought I hit an animal or object and sucked it into the engine bay (close but no cigar). Called the dealer and had them listen to the racket and they said drive on back (13 highway miles). Ignored that advice as first rule of SAABing is never operate the engine when performance is impaired as doing so can void warranty or if out of warranty ruin engine.
Instead of grocery shopping, I then opened the bay and attempted to visually ascertain the cause. All I could see was pink lint and fabric everywhere! I quickly ascertained the textile was cotton based and not OEM material.
No warning lights were on so I drove the mile and half home and called my insurer for a tow to the dealer. Spen the next hour waiting for tow truck and taing pictures of the rag remnants.
Dealer replaced the serpentine belt which was clogged with what was left of the mauve colored shop rag.
Question: Does anyone know if the front end tow or described "textile malfunction" may potentially manifest with additional future problems. Could the engine have suffered any mechanical damage? What about the timing chain? The pulleys? Seemed like the serpentine belt became clogged and started slipping. Horrible noises like a engine throwing rods. Could not go faster than 10 mph with the rag jammed into the pulleys.
