Engine Light after refuelling - Part 2 Posted by Paul [Email] (#792) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Paul) on Wed, 25 May 2005 06:04:42 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
The cause of the check engine light (see posting from last week) has been identified as a small hole in what I can best describe as the vapour line which runs alongside the fuel filler line. The hole was caused by this line rubbing on the rear shock.
That's the good news; the bad news: Saab says "not covered by warranty" even though admitting it's "not a wear item". The worse news: the line can only be replaced as part of the fuel filler assembly at a cost of $390 CDN and 1 hour of labour
The warranty was bought from the dealer (Saturn/Saab in Canada) at time of purchase. My reading of it is that anything not specifically excluded, i.e wear items, is included. The dealer seems to agree and is trying to get Saab (actually GM/Saturn) warranty coverage to apply.
So, my questions: any experience of a failure like this and was it warrantied? It seems the only way this hose could rub was if it wasn't attached in the right palce or a clip broke... should be under warranty, no?
Secondly, if Saab refuses warranty, any suggestions of a fix? I thought about cutting the hose and inserting a metal tube into each end then clamping it in place. I could also just tape / seal the hole if I can find some gunk that won't get destroyed by petrol and high pressure.
Thanks once again,
Paul
