GM Saab: A luxury Pontiac?

This is my first Saab, a 2001 9-3 SE.
I think this car is great! A blast to drive, very luxurious, and it's one of the few cars nowadays with an individual style.
BUT! Having my DIC go out at 45K (luckily on warranty), my A/C compressor pulley go out at 62K, and hearing about oil sludge worries, idler pulleys, etc.
So my question: Is GM destroying the Saab? Were they much better before? I see my 2001 Saab as a brilliantly engineered car, but wonder if some of the parts are going the way of GM.
I've owned a Chevy before, and I think GM builds cars like %RAP (post 1972). They have no longevity whatsoever, with the weakest mechanical engineering on the planet, just behind Ford.
Will Saab eventually just become a luxury Pontiac?
