Strange behavior - some electrical problem

I'm trying to find out, if the following symptoms are related, and whether this is a battery problem, alternator problem, or else.
This is a 95 900 SE V6 Automatic with 116k miles
- When I start the car, the instrument lights dim, and the starter is not as energetic as it used to be. The engine eventually starts, but it takes longer than it used to.
- When I charge the battery, it starts better for a short time.
- However, not charging the battery makes the above symptoms not get worse - it just seems to stay at a certain level of weakness without the battery going dead.
- The battery delivers 12 volts consistently.
- While the engine is cold, I usually get a check engine light for a minute or two. Then it goes away.
- Sometimes the remote lock and alarm system doesn't seem to want to lock the car. Unlocking is no problem.
- The power seats often don't work in the first few minutes. Then I hear a relay clicking somewhere, and they start working. I have not found the location of the relay and don't know, if this is related to the above issues.
- Otherwise everything works on the car. The lights seem as bright as usual when driving.
Should I just go out and buy a new battery? Or is this likely an alternator issue? I'm confused...
Whenever I had batteries go bad in the past, it would gradually get worse to the point where the car would not start at all. This has been consistent since I came back from a 2-week vacation.
THanks in advance for your input!
Nicole
