I own a 1994 900SE with the 2.5 V6. The car has 180,000 miles on it and is still running strong with everything still working (it's in good enough condition that I just purchased a set of Classic Soft Trim leather seats for it (at a tremendous expense); I'm planning on taking it to 300,000 miles and don't doubt the car will do it).

I've had some issues with the Motronic unit, but I'm sorting those out. Nothing that's ever caused drivability issues. The trunk has a water leak that I haven't been able to track down. Other than that, no major issues in the last 50,000 miles.

I love the V6 engine and wouldn't trade it for the 2.3 engine. Power is smooth with consistent low-end torque. Mileage is in the high twenties, in-city driving and bests 32 mpg on the highway. I've never had an instance driving the car, when I thought I needed more power; no problems overtaking vehicles at 75 mph or driving over Loveland Pass (I'm in Colorado).

That being said, the timing belt interval on these engines is every 36,000 miles and not a mile more. The kit runs about $220 and takes about 4 hours to change the belt. I've done it several times and can do it in about 2 hours. The thermostat is burried on the top of the block. With the timing belt removed, it's a 30 minute job to replace. The only other way to access it is by removing the intake manifold.

The valve cover gaskets are made of a thermoplastic and have a tendency to warp with age and leak. I've had good luck with excessive amounts of RTV. Also, to change the rear spark plugs, the intake manifold has to come out, though, don't let that scare you as it's only an hour long job to change all plugs and wires.

If you've had the ability to get the 87 to 270k miles, you'll have no trouble getting the '95 to the same distance. As with everything else, if you maintain it well, it will last.
