Thanks for the feedback guys. Sorry I don't have a photo. I myself didn't go beneath the car to verify the rotted condition - it was what I was told by the service people.
But I really do have alot of trust in the service people at Reinertsen. They have worked on this car for years and if they tell me something is wrong with my car, I believe them because they have built up a huge level of trust with me over the years. They are really top notch.
And, again, they did tell me that this was first time they had ever seen such a thing. I'm speculating, but maybe it was something peculiar with my car, like a bad metal casting or something like that. It most likely is not systemic to the model, since if this had happened before, surely someone on this board would have heard about it or the dealer would have seen something similar given the amount of Saabs they service.
So I bid my 97 farewell, but I still have my 2003 9-3, so I'll see y'all on the 9-3SS board.
