Like most cars, the Saab automatic transmission is checked by pulling the transmission dipstick out while the engine is warmed up and running and with the transmission in park. The instuctions are in the owner's manual.
The fluid should be a bright red and clear(not be foamy). If you have not had the transmision fluid changed on a regular basis (every 30,000-miles), then I sugguest you have the fluid changed to see if that corrects the problem.
The next step would probably be an expensive transmission rebuild.
