This is the part where I show my ignorance of cars: Which one is the idler / tensioner pulley? I thought it was the middle one on the firewall side of the engine.
In any case, I tried pushing on all of the pulleys (even the obvious ones like the compressor and alternator), and couldn't get any of them to move. I did start the engine with the ACC off. It started, but made a quiet squeak / squeal noise. All of the pulleys appeared to be turning, so I drove around the block. The light squeal stayed, but the car drove fine, even with ECON on. There was a very slight burnt smell when I got back (1-2 minutes). I had my wife engage the compressor, and the engine died immediately.
So it seems the car drives in ECON or OFF, but I'm worried about the squeal, which is a new noise, and the odor. It's about 10 miles of highway driving to get to the dealer.
Any other thoughts, or should I just call for a tow?
