It's really not safe to try to squeeze three car seats across the back seat of a 900 since two of the seats will be right against the doors, it'll be super-difficult to get the seatbelts undone if you have to do it quickly, etc. We have two kids and tried to squeeze a thrid car seat in once when babysitting for a friend. Not good.
Your wife may still have illusions of being cool but the reality is that three kids shoot that dream dead and a minivan is the best way to go. If not, you really need to look at something like a used Ford 500 / Mercury Montego which have absolutely enormous backseats and trunks, or something like a Ford Freestyle (some of which have 3rd row seats). Used versions of those cars are cheap. If those choices don't work and minivans are out then you're looking at SUVs with 3rd row seats.
