Hi Mike,

Yes, it's a Base with manual controls. The on/off switch is an electric push button with detent so that it stays depressed when the system is supposed to be on. The air vent control is one of those where the twisty knob can break off (both the dealer and I have replaced knobs, and the dealer allegedly lubed the interior of that cylindrical air box when it was still under warranty), and I think the twisty knob and cable are working OK. I am suspicious of the fan control switch since sometimes I have to put it all the way up to "4", the top level, to get the fan going; still, if a balky fan switch were the issue, then one would think that it would blow cold air once those contacts did their job. No, the A/C just blows warm air when the A/C switch is pressed.

A/C is not my long suit for do it yourself. I cannot tell from the cockpit whether there is a compressor clutch engagement or not when the manual switch is pushed in. I suppose I would rather it was a switch issue, but I am too ignorant at this point to really know.

The dealer is an hour away, whereas I could take it to a local yokel and leave it if the system is one where they can test for leaks, fix and recharge in "Joe's Garage."
