Hi, I recently took my '99 9-3 into an indie for an oil change and at told the mechanic that every couple of months the SID tells me I need to add coolant. He mentioned that he would check the pressure.
His diagnosis came back as: Vehicle loses coolant due to coolant being burned in the combustion chamber. He removed the coil packs and spark plugs, checked each plug and found rust on all. Check the combustion chamber through spark plug holes and found chamber to be completely clean of oil, which, he concluded, means that coolant is entering the chamber.
Can anyone provide any additional information around this diagnosis? I've read that others see white and/or black smoke with this issue, I've not seen any smoke at all. Is there a way to determine how long my car will go? I've only got 103,000 on the engine. I'm contemplating trying to get rid of it before it totally goes.
Finally, is there any kind of consumer recourse for an issue like this that is common among so many cars of the same make and model (kind of like the DI, which I replaced earlier last year!)?
Thanks for your expert advice. I appreciate it.
