So, with my 95 SE, after upgrading the suspension control arms (using the upgrade kit from genuinesaab) thinking "that rattle and clunking noise has got to be due to that worn, pre-96 control arm bushings," the noise only continued; only added unto it was a POP noise from time to time as if something were binding up and then releasing. I've retorqued, re-examined, etc. but could only suspect, per the suggestions of many in the know, that the strut mounts were worn/busted. The driver's side seemed to be the source of the orchestration and that upper mount did look a bit sad. Well, because I was having a bear of a time getting the top nut off that particular side, when replacing the strut mounts I started on the passenger side. All well enough. I think that strut had been changed not too long ago but who knows. It was different from the driver's side either way. Finally I get the strut nut free, go in to remove the strut assembly and while separating the ball joint with a little hammer percussion, I finally heard the rattle while outside the car. Reaching into the tray that holds the lower portion of the spring I found that the spring was now "springs", with a 6 inch piece of coil dancing around in there.

LEt me just say that I have owned A LOT of Saabs in my short life. To the tune of 30 or so. I still have 6. I have driven some like they were throw-away cars. Some get storage facilities. Most were high mileage cars with two or three breeching 300,000 and still running. I have NEVER had a spring break. What did they do when they made these NG 900s? What were they thinking? They are nice enough cars and to each their own but seriously, a broken spring? I'm so tired of tossing money at this thing though I must admit that much of the sum has gone for upgraded parts like a JSP stage 3, 3inch exhaust, etc.

I obviously need new springs but think is silly to go with the stock crappos at this point. Lots recommend springs that lower the car but I'm in OHIO dealing with feet of snow in the winter...I don't want to be a snow plow. Putting bilstein HD on my 9000 with stock springs hasn't had horrible results but I don't quite know how they will work on a 900. Is there any suggestions out there for keeping the ride height fairly stock while still smoothing out the ride some? If not, is there anyone out there who has upgraded and needs someone to take their old springs off their hands? Even while I write this I'm starting to not care all that much...

Thanks for all your help.
