Leaking Bosch Battery

Last March I put in a new Bosch Premium battery (group 47)in my daughter's 1996 900SE Convertible. It's virtually mint with 42m miles on it. While replacing the driver's headlight bulb I noticed a white residue below the battery. I pulled the battery and found a puddle of battery acid on the battery tray and the frame area below.
The battery leaked where the top meets the side. There is a vent on the battery in the area but there was no sign of acid on or in the vent. So I took the battery back for free replacement.
Now I have damage to the battery tray and body paint in the area. I scraped off the crusted battery acid and washed the damaged area with baking soda and water. Dried everything and coated the area with silicone grease. The tray will come out and get painted when I get time.
Has anyone else had this problem with a Bosch Premium battery? I don't want more damage to the car due to a defective battery. Thanks for your feedback.
