Is my Power Steering Pump Toast?

I was about 80 miles away from home this weekend in my 99 9-3, when I discovered that my Power steering pump was low on fluid (Started groaning in turns). Pulled into Auto Zone... got a bottle of Power Steering fluid, added it, and headed home. Not too many miles down the road I needed to pull off and buy some more (Damm... )
I got within 8 miles of home, and the serpentine belt decided to shread... so I had to get towed home, at 10:30, on a Saturday Night.
I thought that my pump had frozen due to lack of fluid, and had taken out the belt in the process. But Today I pulled the pump, and discovered that it still spins freely. There is a leak in the high pressure hose, where the rubber portion decided to find a sharp edge of body metal to rub up against, and wear a nice slice in itself over time.
I've ordered a new hose... Belt... and tensioner pully (The once smooth surface has belt slices in it, where the metal reinforcement cords decided to chew into it on their way out)
I"m thinking (or is that hoping) that the fluid spraying from the hose caused the belt to slip, and rip itself apart... I'm not at all sure about the power steering pump itself. Is there a way to test the pump and determine whether or not it has suffered internal damage? The hose, pully, and belt (which will arrive on Friday) were expensive enough as it is, and I'd rather not spend the money on a new pump, if the old one is still good... but I can't afford the down time waiting for a new pump if I need to order one and start the wait process all over again next week.
Ideas?
