I drive a 1999 Saab 9-3 Convertible... last oil change
my local indie used 5W-30 Synthetic, I guess Saab brand.
For my next change I am going to DIY with Mobil 1
and I'm trying to decide b/t the 5W-30 and the 0W-40.
I've read that the 0W-40 is ACEA3 compliant while 5W-30 is not,
but I'm not 100% sure that the A3 recommendation applies all
the way back to a a 1999 engine. (For newer engines, A3 is definitely
the way to go.)
The Mobil 1 website also recommends 0W-40 for a 1999 9-3
using the "what's the right oil for my car" selector.
I am spending way to much time thinking about this b/c
I doubt it really matter that much b/t the 2 grades of Mobil 1
- what is most important is to (1) use a fully synthetic oil and (2) change it every 5,000 miles max.
I'm in Connecticut. Maybe if I were in FL like you I would lean a bit
toward the extra high temp protection of the 0W-40.
I'm kind of a newbie around here so perhaps some veterans weigh in...
