Before you pull the nut off the bottom, break everything free while they are locked in tight.
Then pull the bottom nut off, put it back on a few threads if you need it on there for your puller, and break the joint. If you use the puller before you have the nnut off, it will just spin after you break it loose... then you will have to hassle trying to get the nut off with the end shaft spinning.
