Sorry, but I don't believe that the mileage is checked against a value stored in the Trionic ECU. If this were true, people wouldn't be able to order upgraded ECUs from tuners that will direct-swap to the car unless they told the tuner the current mileage and didn't drive the car until the new ECU were installed.
I *do* know that the ECU is programmed with both the VIN and the immobilizer code, which must match what's stored in the DICE unit. If they don't match, the car won't start, though I don't recall whether the fuel pump or starter will still run. Since the DICE still accepts the key, it runs in my mind that it'll crank and crank but never fire.
In the event that the ECU doesn't match the VIN and immobilizer in the DICE, I've heard it's possible for a dealer or indy to 'marry' the ECU to the car using a Tech 2 system. This might store the new VIN/immo in its memory, but probably doesn't erase the original values from the factory programming. If you did disconnect your battery to take our your instrument cluster, the ECU could have been reset to its factory defaults and no longer matches your DICE.
So, possibly either your ECU was replaced and was programmed to the car, or your DICE was replaced (lost keys?) and the ECU had to be reprogrammed to the new DICE.
