Greetings all,

I've just been gifted a 1999 9-3 hatch. It has 125k on it and has been sitting since last November. There are some issues with it. I'm completely new to Saabs and would greatly appreciate any direction as at this point I hardly know where to start and have no idea what are the normal/common problems with these cars.

It starts and drives "fine", but idles rough, although it never shuts off. There is a metallic rattling sound coming from the serpentine belt area. It seems to be more audible under the car (louder) than from the top with hood up.

One vacuum hose is broken off, located to the left of the oil cap, at least that's where I think it should go.

There are a bunch of codes that it is reporting:

P0130 - O2 Circuit Bank 1 Sensor 1
P0138 - O2 Circuit High Voltage Bank 1 Sensor 2
P0300 - Random Misfire Detected
P1549 - No description

I've looked over the possible causes to each of these, but it's a long list and I'm hoping that they're somehow related, however it's not obvious to me how.

I have no records of any maintenance that was done to this car. As such I'm assuming none.

My guess is to first do the normal bits, change the spark plugs, vacuum hoses, flush coolant, engine oil, etc. I've been told I might have to replace the "red cover" on top of the engine. I guess that's the DIC?

I've some experience wrenching on cars and have spent plenty a night under either of my two VW Corrados "back in the day", however, I'm no pro mechanic. Since about mid-2003 on I've only driven around in my Jeep Cherokee and those things require virtually nothing and are near impossible to kill.

Thanks in advance for any help and tips!

-Martin Ross
