As John says, the A/C system is so complicated that you really need to know quite a bit about it to fault trace and for us to come with any help that really mean anything.
For instance, you say in your fist post that it keeps pressure just fine but now you mention leak dye (the paint) to add to the system to see leaks. So what is it?
Is it low on freon or is it over filled or is to charged to perfection.
You need to know and be absolutely sure about it.
An over filled system will not cool efficiently and an under filled will not cool at really hot days or not cool at all if the low pressure switch kicks out the compressor.
A perfectly filled system will not cool well if the expansion valve is sticking open or partially closed and it might be pressure differences of maybe 20-50 PSI on the high side 5-10 on the low side from being good to not good so a tinker toy pressure gauge that came with the can of R134a might not be good enough to fault trace a system.
Partially or fully plugged fins on condenser or radiator or a cooling fan that has lost its low speed resistor will also bring down the cooling effect.
And this is as we (assume?) that the compressor is engaged and running. If the compressor is not running, it is a whole new series of fault tracing scenarios.
