Specifically this part of your answer is what I have been searching for ...
"The sticker on that IDM have both the version number, serial number and part number of a black ID"
Now, I know definitively that I should not use this IDM regardless of the color since it probably was repainted (or the sticker was moved from another one). I have to assume the sticker is correct and I will return this Ignition Direct Cassette.
I have not taken the cassette out of the plastic wrap that it came in just in case I needed to return it.

Just to clarify ...
Previously I pointed out the part number and suggested it might be a repaint but also thought that it might be possible that this part number oddly came in both red and black models. You have confirmed that this model number is a Black IDM.
I was not suggesting that any of this board members would ..."stand up against Saab and say YES, you can use a repainted black IDM in your 96 900 WITHOUT any problems whatsoever."
I was only looking for a technical answer to the basic question. You have clearly provided the answer. Thank you again.
