Brake Bleeding Queston Posted by MarcD [Email] (#835) [Profile/Gallery] (more from MarcD) on Sat, 27 Aug 2011 12:30:17 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
The Patient: 1999 9-3 with 185k purchased with 165k a little over a year ago.
The symptom: Notice brake pedal felling soft or spongy, didn't try but got the feeling they wouldn’t fully engage the antilock in a panic stop.
Attempted Solution: After much searching of this board I attempted to bleed and flush brake lines using a vacuum bleeder. The kind that has a hose that goes on the bleed screw and connects to a canister that has another fitting for a hand held vacuum pump. The MC never ran dry and I did remove the old fluid and refill with new Valvoline Dot 4 fluid prior to bleeding the first caliper. Used almost 32 oz. Bleeding order LF, RR, RF, LR as per the WIS.
Problem/Question: Had air bubbles at all 4 corners well after the new fluid started flowing . Tried pulling quite a bit of fluid from the last caliper but the bubbles kept coming. Don’t think this is correct but haven’t worked on an ABS system before, maybe I’m missing something. Pedal still feels soft.
Any suggestions are welcome and much appreciated
Marc
