I finally got around to replacing my MT fluid today. The drain plug magnet had some fine steel shavings on it as expected after 97k miles, but it also had quite a bit of slimy silver gooey substance on it. It looked like and had the consistancy of anti-seize paste. None of this goo was on the threads of the plug, only on the magnet and in the counter bore in the plug where the magnet sits.
Does any one know what this stuff is?
2001 9-3 base 2.0 5speed 97k mi.
