FWIW, here's my procedure for crankshaft position sensor replacement-

Sprayed the cps with penetrant three or four times in the days before the job. Jacked up the front and placed on jack stands. Took a look from down under and it dodn't look any easier from down there so I went at it from the top. Removed the turbo cross tube to get a little more room. Ended up using a ratchet, about 18" of extensions, a swivel knuckle, and the 30T socket. Fortunately the knuckle was tight enough to hold its position so I could set it at an angle. Tough to see down there and have a tool or your arm down there at the same time. I squeezed my trouble light in from the bottom to get some light down there.

I got lucky and after a few tries got the socket into the bolt! It broke lose without too much resistance. I put the socket on a 2" extension and held it down there and got it seated by feel and backed out the bolt. Bingo! Thought the cable would be a piece of cake, but no such luck. Finally figured out how to get the connector apart (slip a screwdriver in solid end and twist to open the clamp). Fish the cable out (again you can see very little). Used a screwdriver to twist the spring clamp on the pipe up enough to get the cable out, wiggle the cps enough to pop it lose and get everything out. Whew!

As the book says "installation is reverse of removal" Ha! Pulled out the old "o" ring and cleaned up the hole. Pushed the new cps into the hole and used a nail to line up the holes. Then the cover! That would not stay in place very well to allow for its hole to line up. Got it close, put the bolt on the socket and short extension and tried to line up by feel. Not enough room, so I went back to the long extensions and knuckle and finally got the cover hole lined up enough to get the bolt started and tight. Threaded cable through the jungle and got the connector up through the plate and connected. Tried to pry up the spring plate to slip the cable under on the water pipe but finally popped the clip right off, lined the cable up on the pipe and using my hand squeezed in there slipped the spring plate over the cable and pipe. Maybe two hours of work including lots of "engineering" time.

Put the turbo pipe back on, got the car back down on the ground and it fired right up (you're kidding, right??!) Really, it did. So far no misses, it's in the 90s all week, so it will get a "trial by fire". If you don't hear back everything's fine.
