My driver side rear quarter window in my 1999 9-3 convertible was slipping as it went up, so I purchased a replacement window regulator (part 5510003). While this did the trick (the old metal teeth had stripped part of the assembly), getting the window perfectly lined up and sealed in the door has been a challenge.
The regulator with glass and frame drops in to the window well. There are four nut/washer combinations on threaded screws on the regulator frame, and the washers slide onto slots in the body frame, where they're tightened. It's fine, but each of the four screws are adjustable, and as you tighten them they tend to pull out from the regulator frame. This causes the regulator frame to angle slightly, which changes the angle of the glass.
I'm having a hard time lining it up to make a tight seal at the exterior window side. There's an interior adjustable seal (with two screws on a metal frame) that is designed to push the glass to the outside seal, but it was fully retracted when I initially pulled the regulator out, and when I adjust it so the glass is flush to the exterior seal, it's way too tight and putting too much pressure on the motor.
There has to be a trick to getting all four screw lengths (on the regulator frame) to the proper setting and keeping them there, and finding the right length for each. I'm going to pull it apart again, putting some blue loctite on the screws, and getting some lubricant on the washer/nut combinations. I suspect the four positioning screws need to stay fairly extended and locked into place, to keep the glass further away from the interior.
But if anyone has done this job and has some insight to share, I'm all ears! thanks
