So I went in to do an seal replacement due to an obvious that was originating behind the crank pulley and over the last couple of months has slowly made of a mess of very clean engine bay. The worst part was the smell of burning out when the spray from the serpentine belt fell on the hot exhaust under full boost.
Try 1.
Cold temps, front seal removed and replaced, circlip removed but oil pump housing wouldn't burge, reassembly. Result? Massive leaking upon starting the engine
Try 2.
Very cold temps, front seal removed, housing removed this time, O-ring removed this time and changed, change of seal. Warmed the car for a few minutes. There was no dripping BUT massive leaking during driving coating the undercarriage
Questions.
Are o-rings and seals to be pre-lubed during install?
Does the lack of leak on second try indicate o-ring is set but seal isn't? Shoot me but does manufacturer matter? I have used El-ring, National (Autozone) and yet to put in another National (that has Moog as the source on the packaging)? Where am I missing getting my daily driver back
