My local indy saab shop dropped my pan, verified the bearings were still good, and at least cleaned the screen. But eventually the issue came back. I don't know what caused it. For years I used full synthetic changed every 5K miles (however I typically dropped it off at a place next to work in the morning & picked it up in the afternoon so perhaps a number of "cold" engine oil changes). Or why it came back, (perhaps simple as more junk migrated down).
For a little while no issues then it came back. Even at its worse, the engine has to get "hot" before would see it, so can casually get a few miles in (depending on air temp) before would start seeing the issue at or near idle, and then shortly at any rpm. Popping into neutral and shutting down & restarting could get me a few more blocks, but usually only worked once. For longer would need the engine to cool more.
As the car is a '99 with around 195K miles and has a few other issues (some mechanical, some cosmetic) I'm not putting anymore real money into it. I've "lived" with it and now using it as the "sacrificial" car for short trips like those to/from the commuter train station (just started a new job a couple of months before the incident). I have tried a few "home" remedies like oil additives and recently swapped in a few quarts of "high mileage" oil. But with the little mileage I put on the car now anything will take forever to work. Its seems to be "better" but I'm not about trust it yet.
