I don't know aobut cam shaft journals, but it is somewhat common for connecting rods and caps to be cast as one single piece, machined as one piece, then have the cap portion snapped off along a parting line which is cast into the original blank.
With this method of fabrication the connection rod caps will only fit their original rod, and when bolted back together the rod and cap assembly is far stronger than similar components manufactured separately.
