Jump Starting Question - Trip to Northern Maine Posted by Sondeen [Email] (#796) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Sondeen) on Fri, 22 Jan 2016 10:33:15 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Is it safe to jump start a 2001 9-3? or is there risk to damaging the computer module(s)? I recall reading some-where that some "modern" Saabs should not be jump started when the battery is dead, as you risk damaging the computer.
The reason I ask is that I plan to spend a week in Baxter Park in Northern Maine in February, where my car will sit for 6 nights in a remote parking lot 35 miles from civilization. I fear that when I ski the 16 miles back out of the park at the end of the week I might find my battery has died in the cold, then I will be beholden to some kind snowmobiler who offers to jump me with their sled trailer hauling F250 super duty truck, or hitching a ride to town in a logging truck.
My current 84 mo. rated battery is about 4 years old. I am thinking maybe I just start the trip with a brand new battery, or bring a spare from my other car along for the trip. A friend suggested I bring along get some type of jumping device that has a high capacity Li-ion battery, of which I have not really researched yet. Anyone with any thoughts on this?
