I've given my system a Lysol treatment on occasion to kill any bad stuff growing in the ducts. I remove the cabin air filter and spray Lysol into the cabin air intake while running the fan on full. You might give this a try as I suspect the Lysol would have the effect of removing some gunk, especially if you change the vent settings during the process while the Lysol remaines liquid in the system. Might work. I doubt it would hurt anything. If you need help finding the cabin air filter please let me know. I'm happy to walk you through the process.
