ah mayhaps you are being to overcautious IMHO the OG Saab had a ( by most standards) A pathetic small oil capacity and it was implicated in the sludging issue It is not just a question of performance it is a question of survival! Our old motors need all the help we can get! Maybe in the frozen north you never get very hot or stress the oil and motor but a LOT of the country is WARM or in the desert HOT! and Yes even w/ an oil cooler there can and will be issues! All Saabs are basically high-performance vehicles as they are all turbocharged! Larger filter media surface area is a really good thing! It can continue to filter longer as there is more area to absorb dirt or other debris! ( before the filter is clogged and the bypass opens hence NO filtering ! )
