IMHO, you have added a ton of structure to the front of a convertible, so harshness in the mid-section is kind of expected. The defects in the road travel easily through low profile tires to heavy wheels through stiff shocks to a monolithic structure to the center of the car which is not particular well-tied to the rear. I'd not expect a great experience.
I would imagine that fixing it would entail something like lighter wheels, somewhat compliant tires, and actually good struts & shocks & springs - but I'm not sure there's much in the way of Really Good suspension for these cars. The goal is to put some shock absorption in the middle of the equation rather than letting all the harshness get transferred to the cabin.
