There are two coolant temperature sensors on T5 cars. The one with the wires on the side of the head drives the coolant temperature gauge. There's another one on the intake manifold in between two runners that's part of the fuel system. You definitely have the wrong sensor if yours has a spade connector on it. That almost sounds more like the oil pressure sensor. I can't think of any other sensors on T5 engines that have a spade connector.
